Local Orders

A local order is an order placed by a person living in Baltimore, MD. Local customers will book their order through the “Local Orders” page. On the “Local Orders” page, you will choose the kind of cake that you want and then “schedule” your cake on one of the days that are available on the calendar (Think Acuity scheduling, Booksy, etc.). There are only a certain amount of slots (orders) available per each available day. Your cake order will be scheduled in a one hour time slot (ex. 6:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.), but this has nothing to do with a pick-up time or the time it takes to prepare the cake, etc. You should schedule the order first to ensure that there is a slot available, then you will pay/checkout.

Pick-up and Delivery (Local Customers)

For customers located in Baltimore, MD and close surrounding areas, there will be pick-up and limited delivery available. Pick-up will be arranged at a pre-determined central location or landmark that corresponds with a few popular areas in town A call or email will be placed to confirm pick-up details. Delivery will be available for an additional fee of $10 within a 7 mile radius of 21239.

Shipping Orders

Shipping (Out-of-town) orders

A shipping order is an order placed by a customer who lives outside of the Baltimore area or outside of the state of Maryland. Shipping customers will shop on the “Shipping Orders” page. On the “Shipping Orders” page, you will select the type of cake that you want, the quantity, and then you will check out. When checking out, shipping costs will be applied and you will be asked to provide your email and shipping address.

Shipping details

Shipping is a flat rate of $20 per cake. We ship our cakes using USPS Priority Mail, which usually delivers in 1-3 business days. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, packages are taking an average of 3 days to arrive. Our pound cakes are the only products that can be shipped at this time.

Allergy and Dietary Information

Our traditional cakes are made with prouducts such as milk, eggs, butter, sugar, and flour. Our vegan cakes are not made with dairy products, but instead use almond milk, plant butter, and a plant-based egg substitite. Vegan cakes are prepared with separate equipment and baked in separate pans. We use nuts in some of our cakes and use some nut-based products. Please let us know if you have specific allergies or dietary restrictions, we will be happy to accommodate, if possible.

How do I store and preserve my cake?

Pound Cakes

Pound cakes can be kept and stored in an air-tight container or cake plate at room tempature for up to one week. You can also wrap your cake, or any remaining portion of your cake, in plastic wrap and aluminum foil and store it in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Layer Cakes

Please refrigerate layer-cakes upon receipt. When you are ready to serve the cake, take it out of the refrigerator about one-hour prior to serving. since the whole cake has been chilled prior. This will ensure that the ingredients stay fresh until the cake is served.

After you have sliced your cake, you can store it a room tempature only during serving time, as our frosting requires refrigeration. To store frosted cakes in the refrigerator, chill the uncovered cake in the fridge for at least 15 minutes so that the frosting hardens slightly, and then cover with plastic wrap. Before serving, allow the cake to sit on the counter for about 30 minutes. A cut layer cake will last for about 4-5 days refrigerated.

If you want to freeze your whole cake or individual pieces of your cake, place the cake in the freezer on a baking sheet, plate, or cake round until frozen solid to the touch. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil, and freeze for up to 2 months.

To thaw: Leave frosted cake wrapped in plastic and thaw at room temperature.

How big is my cake?

Our pound cakes are 10-inch (12 cup pan) cakes that can serve up to 12-16 people.

Our Layer cakes are 9- inch round, 3 layer cakes that can serve up to 12-16 people.

Can I make special requests?

Sure! You may want to request specific toppings or decorations for your cake, so feel free to ask! If we are able to provide what you have requested, we will! Special requests may come with an additional fee. Please contact us prior to ordering to ask about your request.

What kinds of payments are accepted?

We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe. We also accept Apple Pay and PayPal.

Are refunds or exchanges allowed?

At Scratch Southern Cakes we do everything possible to provide a quality experience to all customers, however we do not offer refunds or exchanges after the order is placed. If you should experience an issue with your order, please contact us using the information on our contact page.

Can I cancel an order?

After you have paid, you cannot cancel your order. If you would like to possibly move your completed order to another date, you can contact us within 12 hours of the order being placed to inquire about your order being rescheduled to a later delivery/shipping time. Please take your time to browse our selections, don’t rush!
